Rozbuduj Czarci Chutor na Numinosum Festival!

About this project

In September 2018 the Numinosum Festival will take place for the second time in the conservation area of the Kampinos National Park. For four days of music and dance celebration we will be promoting traditional and balfolk culture from different parts of Europe. During the day we dance in the steeped in unique history Open Air Museum of the Kampinoski National Park in Granica. The rest of the festival life takes place behind the wooden gate of the Slavic settlement of Czarci Chutor (Devil’s Inn). It is here, in the Slavic hamlet, that the base of the festival is located. Behind the Chutor’s wooden palisade our guests can regenerate their strength after dancing all day, get a good night’s sleep at the campsite, eat their fill, try traditional dishes (and beverages!), and have fun till the sun comes up at the after-party with live music.

As befits a (pre-) Slavic hamlet, living conditions here are simple and close to nature. Contact with wilderness is this venue’s huge asset. We do not want to lose this quality and believe that the changes we are planning are going to merely emphasize the Chutor’s advantages. The cottage can contain only part of the dancers, the kitchen struggles with limited capacity, and the spartan bath with cold water is not sufficient for roughly 200 festival-goers who dream of a warm shower.

We are planning a number of facilities which will permanently (also for the next editions!) change this place for the better:

Building an 80-square-meter roofed dance floor

Investing in showers with warm water

 Lighting the festival space

Purchase of good-quality sound amplifying equipment

 Increasing the number of toilets

Changes in the kitchen and menu

We have ambitious plans to meet the requirements of all the Numinosum Festival participants and the Czarci Chutor’s guests during this year and the next ones. We follow the rule “once and for all” and would like the spent money to be a long-lasting contribution to the infrastructure of this venue. Permanent changes for the better are the best changes possible! We wholeheartedly encourage the support of our initiative from all well-wishers, former and future guests and everyone who wants to have a real input into the genuine change of this venue on the picturesque Mazovian land.

The Vth edition of the Numinosum Festival will take place on 6-9 September 2018 r. in Kampinos near Warsaw. We create a unique space which integrates environments of people interested in various forms of artistic expression in the currents of traditional culture and folklore. During the days workshops are organized, whereas in the evenings – concerts and dance parties to traditional music played live. Moreover, participants can take part in a number of artistic and sightseeing events.

The festival line-up:

Janusz Prusinowski Kompania - followers of traditional village musicians, and at the same time an avant-garde formation with own language of improvisation and very characteristic sound. They combine music with dance, traditional forms with the experience of modern times, concert tours with educational activities in Poland and in the world.

Ciac Boum – a vibrant French trio with an established position on the European traditional music stage. Their concerts in Poland are rare.

ba.fnu – a Czech band consisting of three musicians, each of whom is a multi-instrumentalist. They feature an unusual variety of rhythms and melodies.

Revival – the newest project of the musician and traditional dance teacher Piotr Zgorzelski. An amazingly successful attempt at including into traditional tunes new instruments, for example the harp.

Mr Folxlide – Mikulasz Bryan’s solo project: dance music inspired by blues rhythms. One-man orchestra and unusually entrancing, atmospheric sounds!

Kapela Karuzela – a 6-member band of remarkable musicians presents a dance urban repertoire.

Borsa együttes – musicians from the Hungarian town Pilicszaba perform Hungarian and Moldovan music: lively, dancy, pastoral, perfect for dancing barefoot around a campfire.

Kapela Bursów – Jacek Bursa with his sons is a true quintessence of energy from the region of Opoczno. The band is famous for not being able to stop playing.

Agregandado – an amazingly versatile band from Toruń, skillfully creating a bridge between the two pillars of the festival: traditional music from Poland and Europe. Also known for their love for Scandinavian melodies.

Kukavica – a dynamically developing band of four female soloists, drawing inspiration from the roots of Baltic countries and Eastern Europe. A Slavic culmination of the Numinosum Festival

The festival offers also huge possibilities to expand our dance horizons! We are preparing a dozen or so workshops devoted to traditional Polish and European dances. We have also much to offer balfolk lovers.

Professional and acclaimed teachers will be teaching us the steps to many dances. Prepare for:

Balfolk dances (Patryk Wernio and Agata Abramowicz),

Breton dances (Tomasz, BreTomek, Kowalczyk)

French mazurka (Rafał Kwietniewski),

Variations in partner dances (Mikuláš Bryan),

French dances from the Poitou region (Christian Pacher),

Polish dances (Piotr Zgorzelski),

Suburban polish dances (Grzegorz Ajdacki),

Kampinos dances (Grzegorz Ajdacki),

Kujawiaks (Dominik Wóltański),

Moravian dances (Mikuláš Bryan),

Hungarian and Moldovan dances (Borsa együttes),

Swedish dances (Dominik Wóltański)

Lemko singing (Ivan Čižmár)
